The Bionic Woman Is Back

Hello there everyone...

It's been two months since I had my bilateral knee replacement surgery. I'm doing really good. I want to say great but I know it's too soon to use that word. I'm walking freely without the use of a cane or walker. It's still a work in progress but I'm so pleased with the results thus far.

The surgery itself...WOW! Actually the first 2 weeks were pretty rough. Thank goodness for great drugs!! I was in the hospital for 3 days before being transferred to a rehab facility. I opted for that because having both knees done, I knew I would need a lot of care and didn't want to put that responsibility on Ray.

The rehab facility sucked except for the physical therapy department. I was in therapy for two hours a day. One hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. They worked you but two weeks after surgery I was walking the halls with a walker and ready to go home so I couldn't complain.

I completed at-home physical therapy for 10 sessions. This young man was outstanding. He knew his stuff and also cared about his patient! I hated to see him go.

I've posted some photos here from the ordeal. I'm just glad to be back up on my feet without assistance!! So grateful to my awesome surgeon and the nurses that cared for me. It's good to be back here too!

Pain meds in action. Groggy!

Bandages off and staples removed

Steri-strips on as a precaution

Up on two new knees!

Thank god for frozen peas! LOL

Rockin' that cane!

My therapist torturing me!

Nice and straight. Look at straight line!

Back to the beach which was my goal! I did it!

Until next time, remember...

Sunday Stealing 2-26-17

It's been a couple of Sunday's since I did a Sunday Stealing and since I'll be in the hospital for a while after my surgery this week, I'm jumping in.

Cheers to all of us thieves!

Sunday Stealing: My-New-Favorite-Author Questions

Where do you go to decompress from the world?
The answer is simple...the beach!

If given $10,000, what would you do with it?  Pay off my bills and take my son and granddaughters on a Caribbean vacation.

What is one major renovation you would love to make on your house? A new kitchen

What is one movie that you love and didn’t expect to love? Genius. Just watched it the other night and when Ray brought it home from Redbox I thought, "why did he rent this"? It was great. What a performance by Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman and Jude Law. Very surprising movie.

What is the oldest knick-knack you own and what is its sentimental value? I have most of that in boxes in the garage. I believe I have antique pitchers that my mother gave me from her mother's house.

Do you own any books you keep out of obligation, but actually hate? No. All the books I have are favorites.

How many countries have you visited outside of the one you live in now? Two. Canada and Bermuda

Have you ever read only part of a book, but claimed you’ve read the whole thing? Yes. When I was giving books for training classes, I would just skim it.

Have you ever spent a lot of money on something? What was it? Yes. I bought myself a $1200 watch when I got a big promotion years ago. It was such a poorly made watch. Never again.

If you could change your name, what would it be? When I was a teen, I hated my name and wanted to be called Sam.

What is a nickname a former (or present) lover gave you? N/A

How do you style your hair? If you just would say "cut" what style is it? My hair is longer and with highlights. I wear the beachy look. Wind blown.

How many colors are you wearing now? 2

What's one piece of fiction that changed your life? Great Expectations. I never imagined that Dickens could write something I would be interested in. I loved it.

Is there anything that has made you unhappy recently? Yes. All the negative and useless comments on Facebook and blogger about politics over this last election. Enough already.

Tell us about the job that you did before your current one or last one.The job I did before I moved south was pretty big. I ran two departments in a mortgage closing/operations center for a huge title company. I had 37 people under me at one point. My job was to get production up and reduce errors. 10 hour days and a great support staff that I hand picked got those departments running like clockwork with an error rating of 98-100%.

What was the last song to get stuck in your head? Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones

What is your least favorite thing to do that you have to do everyday? Make the bed. Ray sleeps as if he's wrestling an alligator and it's like making the bed from scratch every single day. Ugh!

Best time of your life? It's all been the best and more to come!

What are you most looking forward to in the coming year? That's easy. I look forward to being able to walk well again and climb stairs so I can enjoy vacations with my granddaughters.

Until next time, remember...

The Countdown Begins

Time is creeping up to my double knee replacement surgery. I'm getting nervous because I hate not being able to be in total control of my body and I won't be for awhile. Rehab is going to be tough but I will forge ahead.

I've been busy running around for one blood test and doctor appointment after another. I'm tired already! Plus, we just did a big art show this weekend. Or, should I say, I sat there while Ray did a big art show this  It was a beautiful weather weekend and a successful show so all was good.

I love Florida !

This tree was massive. My son would have climbed that in a heartbeat when he was younger!

Another massive and very old tree at the park

Blue skies and lookin' up!
Now you know where I've been. Hope all of you are doing well.

Until next time, remember...

Is It Just Me?

Is it just me or does anyone else notice how awful grammer and spelling are in magazines, books or online content? It's a peeve of mine and I'm seeing it everywhere of late.

Here's an example from today that has me scratching my head:

A women's clothing mail order catalog. Women's jeans; size Petite 28" Inseams, Women 30" Inseam, Talls 28" Inseam.  Another page; women's sweater labeled as item 'A'. Looking down for a description of item 'A' I find the letter 'A' listed as a vest. The picture of the vest matches the description for letter 'C'.  I ended up tossing it out, I was so irritated.

Doesn't anyone proofread before releasing anything to the public? If I ever released a user manual for a software company I worked for and the user found typos, I seriously would have caught hell from my boss. You have to put pride in your work don't you?

Are corners being cut so much in the business world that quality isn't a concern?

I'm not perfect. Far from it. I'm sure I've written something too quickly and found mistakes. I don't look for mistakes when I read things. They just jump out at me.

Drives me nuts!

I think I need a massage.

Thank you.

A Frustrated Reader

Tomorrow, the New England Patriots will be winning the Super Bowl, so I decided to get this post done early and answer these questions ahead of time. I have to watch the G-O-A-T, Tom Brady win his fifth ring.  So many people love to hate him, the Patriots and Bill Belichick but you really can't take their talent and ability away from them.

Pelicans, Blue Herons and Dolphins

For Christmas, I gave my sweetie a voucher for a boat tour on the Indian River Lagoon & Estuary in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. I've been on it a few times before with friends and granddaughters but he had not.

Last Wednesday was the day we decided to go on the tour as the weather forecast looked promising. To say it was the perfect weather day is an understatement.  Here are some photos so you can be the judge and see for yourself. Enjoy!

It was a fabulous day and Ray was so thrilled to see parts of Florida from a different perspective. This is in our own backyard. We are so very lucky to live her.

Sunday Stealing - 1/30/2017

A week has passed by again. I had a pretty good week and I've another post coming to share some incredible photos I took...stay tuned.

Today is my day late post with answers to:

Sunday Stealing: The Cool Guy Questions

1.) When was the first time you ever swore or said something profane?  I was a young teen and I don't remember what I said but considering my parents swore, I don't think it shocked anyone.

2.) Have you ever had unrequited feelings for someone?/Have you ever been friendzoned? Never.  I have had friends with benefits but that was mutual.

3.) What's a false assumption a lot of people have about you? That there is nothing wrong with me because you can't see the pain that comes with Fibromyalgia.

4.) Have you ever questioned your sexuality? No.

5.) If you could bring one person back from the dead, who would it be and why? My husband. He was such an amazing man and he taught me so much about myself and gave me confidence which let me excel in my life.

6.) What did you do on December 12th last year? I can't remember yesterday, let alone a month and a half ago.

7.) When was the last time you truthfully told someone you hated them? Never. I truly "hate" hatred.

8.) What is your opinion on this song? What about this song? I got a "removed" notice when I clicked on them.

9.) In less than four sentences, describe the entire plot of the last book you read. Four people in senior apartment complex become entwined in a plot to prove an employee is a thief and a thug. Enemies become friends. Love blooms.

10.) Describe the appearance of the most untrustworthy person you can think of (they can be a person you've met or a made up person). Are they male or female or neither? What about their appearance makes them untrustworthy? Female. Shifty eyes.

11.) What is the most cringe-worthy thing you've ever seen? When I was 18, I saw two young boys run off a bus, run in front of it and were hit by a car. It was awful. One brother picked up his bloodied head and kept calling for his brother, who was about 10 feet away from him and not moving (I learned he passed away)

12.) What is your biggest regret? That I could have done more with and for my father in his last two years.

13.) Do you have any cousins? When was the last time you saw them? I have a bunch of cousins. I saw my cousin Eileen at my mother's almost two years ago. I hadn't seen her in many, many years.

14.) Describe the worst birthday you've ever had. My 50th. My ex didn't even acknowledge that it was the big "50" while he made sure every single person in his family celebrate big numbers with a party.

15.) When was the last time someone provoked you to the point of violence? When I was very young.

16.) OH NOES!!!! Someone has gotten you to drink a truth potion and now you have to truthfully answer every question you are asked!!! What's the worst possible question someone could ask you? This is not the forum for that answer..LOL.

17.) Describe, in detail, your first serious relationship. Describe how it ended.I met a guy when I was in high school. He was out of school already and working. We were both so in love for the first time. We even got engaged. I was 15 mind you! After a year and a half my big brother came over to the house and started lecturing me about how I needed to travel and see the world before even thinking about settling down. How I was throwing away my life and was just way too young. It worked because I couldn't stop thinking about his words. I was up all night really "hearing" him in my head. The next day I broke up with the poor guy. I broke his heart but it was the right thing to do for me.

18.) Introduce your best friend. Tell the story of how you met. Kathy lived diagonally behind me but I went to Catholic school. She and another girl down the street were standing on a hill watching me walk up carrying my very heavy book bag. They were sizing me up and Kathy asked me what was in the bag. I stopped to show her. I was 6. We've been friends ever since.50 years ago.

19.) To the introduced friend, has our interviewee lied in any of these questions? Are you surprised by any of these answers? She doesn't go on the computer but I know she remembers this as well.

20.) To finish up, what is your biggest irrational fear and how did you get it?
Fear of deep water. My father held me in a pool when I was very young and told me he was going to dunk me, which he did. He forgot to tell me to hold my breath. I became terrified of deep water. I'm ok now in a swimming pool but I'm terrified of the ocean and you probably won't ever find me on a cruise.

Sunday Stealing - 1/22/2017

It's been since before the holidays that I've taken part in the Sunday Stealing Questions & Answers. Both Christmas and New Year fell on Sundays and then I was entertaining a friend from Canada after spending several spectacular days on the beach.  So let's play. The link is below if you want to take part in this. It's fun.

1. Are you loud, outgoing or shy?  I can be all three but truthfully I'm a fairly shy person until I get to know you. Then I can be very outgoing. As for loud...only watching a good basketball or football game but mostly watching my boy, Joey Logano, racing to the finish line during a Nascar Sprint Cup race.

2. What’s coming up where you’ll see an old friend?  Hopefully, I can get back up to Connecticut for a vacation this summer and then I will see my good friend Shelly.

3. Are you easy to get along with? I think I'm very easy to get along with. Just don't get on my bad side. Lol

4. Have you ever given up on someone, but then gone back to them? Yes and not with a romantic relationship. It's too personal to discuss but finally all is going good.

5. Who was the last person that you had a deep conversation with? My friend Debbi from Canada.

6. Are you okay with being in a big crowd? I do not like big crowds. I've been in a few but always glad to get away from the noise.

7. Do you believe in luck and/or miracles? No. I believe in the universe.

8. What good thing happened during the summer? (It’s good to think about summer when you are freezing your butt off in January.) I got to spend 9 glorious days with my granddaughters in Connecticut. Nothing makes me happier.

9. Do you think there is life on other planets? I'm not sure but I do know it is a very vast universe out there.

10. Who was your first crush on? If you mean celebrity crush, it was definitely Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. First serious boy crush was Robbie Kelco. I was 14.

11. What are your bad habits? I hate cooking. I'm not a fanatic about cleaning house like my mother is. There's more to enjoy in life than worrying if everything is perfect indoors.

12. What’s your favorite part of your daily routine? Drinking my first cup of delicious, fresh brewed, black coffee and savoring the aroma when it's brewing.

13. Other than your significant other, who are you most comfortable with? I'm most comfortable with myself. I have close friends that are easy to talk with or go out to lunch with but I have no problem being alone.

14. Has an ex ever told you that they regret breaking up? No.

15. Why should your celebrity crush drop everything to be with you? Because I'm worth it. Lol 🤣

16. What would be the hardest to give up and why? Books. TV. Music. Definitely books. I love to read. It keeps my mind traveling to new places and meeting new characters.

17. Do you believe in second chances? I do. Everyone makes mistakes. Therefore, we deserve a second chance. Do not misunderstand me though. That's all you get is one chance to make it right.

18. What would like to do next in your life? Live on the beach and write.

19. What’s the meanest thing that anyone has ever said to you? After struggling with first being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, my ex told me I was just plain lazy. Notice I said "my ex"! Done. Finished. Buh-bye!

20. What’s the nicest thing that anyone has ever said to you?  I love you with all my heart!

Feel free to join in but signing up at the link at the top. Would love to hear your answers.

All I Wanted For Christmas Was Two New Knees - Did Santa Hear Me?

For the past 21 years, I have suffered with arthritis in my knees. I'm only 56, so that should tell you I was relatively young to be diagnosed with pretty bad knees. I was only 35. The orthopedic surgeon back then told me I was the unfortunate one in the family to get the bad knee genes. I instantly remembered my dad's mother being crippled up with bad knees. So much so that she could barely walk or get up out of a chair.

Since then, I've had 3 knee surgeries. Two were arthoscopic and the other was major. It was called a Makay Osteotomy. My shin was split lengthwise from the side then pulled forward a tad. This was to pull the kneecap away from the joint so it wouldn't rub and cause pain. A piece of my hip was then taken  to hold it back together after the crack was filled with bone filler. It was an awfully painful recuperation. I was basically bedridden until the bone healed. No cast was used. Just a soft padded brace. Weeks of pain, boredom and frustration. I was 41 at that time. The hope of this surgery was to give me relief temporarily until I was older and thus able to get knee replacements

It worked. I was able to walk fairly well, yet I could not climb stairs. I walked when I could and that was my form of exercise. Remember, this was just a temporary band aid. Now, 14 years later, it's clear to me that my temporary relief is gone. Both knees are extremely flared up. I am sick of the pain. I am sick of not being able to climb stairs. I am sick of watching life go past me and so I asked Santa Claus if I could have new knees for Christmas.

Santa's giving me my new knees on March 1st. It's dawned on me that I have lived with knee pain for so long that I can't remember what it feels like to have none. I can't remember how to climb stairs without holding on, doing one step at a time. I'm sure physical therapy will torture get me back there.

I'm ready. Ready for the fight. It's going to take some serious work on my part and there will be pain. I have to remember that I've done this before. This one is supposed to be even easier to recuperate from. I've got this!

Thanks Santa!

Welcoming in 2017 The Beach Way

What a way to start off the new year. My friend from Canada was coming down to our beach for the first week of January. I knew I'd be going down to visit her at least for an overnight stay. At the last minute that sweet man of mine said "book a room" and we were headed down for two nights ourselves.

Turns out another couple that are friends of Debbi's booked at the same hotel for the same two nights. Upon check in, another couple that were friends of Debbi's friends booked a night also. So needless to say, we ended up having a fabulously fun time.

Debbi opened her room up as "Club 203" for Happy Hour, That was a blast. Seven people drinking, laughing and listening to music before even heading out for dinner. It turned out to be a great couple of days. No planning...just flying by the seat of our pants. So much fun we ended up adding another night on. Best mini vacation EVER!

The weather was perfect. The pool was awesome. But the best part of the whole thing...
