The Bionic Woman Is Back

Hello there everyone...

It's been two months since I had my bilateral knee replacement surgery. I'm doing really good. I want to say great but I know it's too soon to use that word. I'm walking freely without the use of a cane or walker. It's still a work in progress but I'm so pleased with the results thus far.

The surgery itself...WOW! Actually the first 2 weeks were pretty rough. Thank goodness for great drugs!! I was in the hospital for 3 days before being transferred to a rehab facility. I opted for that because having both knees done, I knew I would need a lot of care and didn't want to put that responsibility on Ray.

The rehab facility sucked except for the physical therapy department. I was in therapy for two hours a day. One hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. They worked you but two weeks after surgery I was walking the halls with a walker and ready to go home so I couldn't complain.

I completed at-home physical therapy for 10 sessions. This young man was outstanding. He knew his stuff and also cared about his patient! I hated to see him go.

I've posted some photos here from the ordeal. I'm just glad to be back up on my feet without assistance!! So grateful to my awesome surgeon and the nurses that cared for me. It's good to be back here too!

Pain meds in action. Groggy!

Bandages off and staples removed

Steri-strips on as a precaution

Up on two new knees!

Thank god for frozen peas! LOL

Rockin' that cane!

My therapist torturing me!

Nice and straight. Look at straight line!

Back to the beach which was my goal! I did it!

Until next time, remember...

  2. HURRAY! So good to hear that you've come through this with flying colours! I think you were very wise to spend the initial time in a rehab hospital so as to get the best care/physical therapy available. But yowza! what a pair of scars! And I know what you mean about pain meds -- when I had colon surgery a few years ago, morphine was my BFF for the first few days!

    1. Wow, colon surgery? That had to be a b***ch! This was rough but I knew that going in and just chose to focus on me and getting up out of that hospital bed. So glad I got both done and don't have to go back again. Thanks for your support Debra. Means a lot!

  5. Welcome back! I've been following along through Facebook, and I'm glad everything went well! And that you found an actual use for frozen peas. Not sure why anyone would ever have those things otherwise...
